Alterra Community Foundation Site

Background: Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation was launched in 2022 to serve the mountain resort communities and surrounding areas. As the Foundation gained momentum and donations inquiries increased, it was determined a dedicated website would be necessary to inform community members and potential donors, while also facilitating grant request submissisions and digital donations. The Foundation had a single webpage on the corporate site, so this move wouldn’t be starting from complete scratch – but close to it.

Working with a talented team of designers and developers at a partner agency, we built out a custom site on WordPress employing reusable custom components, adjustable theming, and an intuitive content structure for straightforward management.

Our buildout was progressing smoothly until we received a late requirement to support French speaking visitors. Incorporating multiple languages is a difficult thing to do once beyond the technical site setup, especially when the experience has to be at the same standard as it is for English speakers (per Quebec law).

As a solution, we built a carbon copy of the pages and components, then populated with French content. We incorporated a “navigation sub-menu” within the global menu to enable equivalent navigation for French speakers. This approach met relevant legal requirements and allowed us to stay on schedule for launch.
